COURSE OVERVIEW
In many workplaces, daily activities involve manual handling, and in the health and community sectors, these tasks often include assisting patients or clients. These tasks can pose risks, making it essential to learn safe practices to avoid injury to yourself and others. Without proper training, employees are more likely to make mistakes that can result in serious harm, especially when handling hazardous situations.
This course is specifically designed for individuals working in the health and community sectors who may need to perform manual handling tasks involving patients or clients. The training will provide you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to identify potentially hazardous manual tasks, recognise sources of risk, and apply controls to perform tasks safely. You’ll learn about body mechanics, the importance of posture and positioning, use various mechanical aids common in the health and community sectors and how to identify and report injury symptoms.
This course aligns with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards, and industry codes of practice, such as the Hazardous Manual Tasks Code of Practice.
ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.
APPLICATION
The Conduct Manual Tasks Safely provides training through theory and practical tasks to increase awareness of good manual handling practices across the workplace. The application of this course extends to warehouses, retail, construction, aquatics and general workers. This course is often beneficial in demonstrate compliance and providing sufficient training to workers through nationally recognised training. The course will cover various aspects of rescue situations and determine appropriate rescue actions, communicate effectively, and use a range of equipment and techniques to conduct complex open water rescues efficiently. Complex water rescues involve multiple people in distress, individuals suffering from medical events while in the water including suspected spinal injuries, injured persons, navigating through various hazards, or a combination of many factors.

The Surf Park Lifeguard Training Program is a specialised training module specific to surf parks and wave machines. The program is designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to ensure the safety and well-being of users consisting of surfers, swimmers and other watercraft users. Learning content includes surf awareness skills, wave controls, supervision methods, aquatic rescue techniques, preventive measures, emergency response, first aid, logistics and operations.

In this CPR course, you will learn these skills, in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, including using an automated external defibrillator (AED), how to rotate first aiders with minimal interruptions to compressions, and what to do if the casualty regurgitates or vomits.

The Aquatic Amusement Lifeguard Training Program offers further training modules specific to aquatic based theme/amusement parks. The program is designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to ensure the safety of visitors capturing wave pools, water slides, lazy rivers, wave machines, inflatable obstacles, and other water-based amusements. Learning content includes supervision methods, aquatic rescue techniques, preventive measures, emergency response, first aid and amusement/ride operations.

This course provides practical simulated real-life situations to learn and gain the confidence to coordinate and manage a response and provide advanced first aid in line with legal, community and workplace considerations, Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and other Australian national peak clinical bodies until emergency services arrive.

The Aquatic Attraction Training Program (AATP) is suited for shallow water or aquatic based amusement/devices/rides such as splash playgrounds/pads, water coasters etc. The program equips staff to monitor the general safety of others and take proactive measures to reduce risk where lifeguard skills may not be appropriate. Learning content includes health and safety, preventive measures, crowd control, risk management, communication and ride/device operator awareness.

The course provides simulated real-life scenarios for a set of skills to provide advanced first aid, oxygen therapy, advanced resuscitation, ongoing monitoring and care after treatment, handover of the casualty to emergency services and incident debriefing or evaluation to improve future operations, address individual needs recognising psychological impacts and seeking help as required.

This course will teach participants the skills and knowledge needed to complete a hazard analysis, specify risk controls to bring risks to ALARP, identify relevant personnel, complete appropriate hazard analysis forms (paper or electronic), monitor and review effectiveness of risk controls.
Participants will also learn the significance of the analysis context, how the identified hazards may cause harm and the purpose and use of the risk matrix.

In this course individuals who may be required to provide emergency care to a casualty with suspected spinal injury. It includes recognition and management of a suspected spinal injury, immobilising cervical spine using manual in-line stabilisation (MILS) techniques as well as spinal equipment, evaluating the need to move a casualty, preparing a casualty for transport, transporting and monitoring.

This course will also equip individuals with the skills and knowledge required to advise on appropriate emergency planning, making them familiar with all aspects of building fire safety on day-to-day matters and during facility emergencies. The course has been developed to cover a broad range of emergencies and facilities as considered in Australian Standard 3745 and Australian Standard 4083.
